Brisbane Roar Women jumped to the summit of the Westfield W-League ladder with a well deserved 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
First half goals from captain Clare Polkinghorne and Tameka Butt proved to be the difference in an entertaining encounter at Marconi Stadium, securing the Roar’s second victory of the season.
The visitors looked comfortable throughout the match after establishing an early lead, with resolute defending from the whole side and strong goalkeeping from Mackenzie Arnold keeping the clean sheet intact.
The Roar now take momentum into next weekend’s blockbuster home clash with defending Champions Melbourne City at AJ Kelly Park, Kippa Ring on Sunday, December 4.
“It was a good team performance and I was really happy with the way we responded after last weekend’s game against Canberra United,” Head Coach Mel Andreatta said.

Brisbane Roar played out a third consecutive draw but extended their undefeated run to six games in a tough Hyundai A-League encounter with Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday night.
The Roar were forced to defend for the majority of the second half with goals from Jamie Maclaren and Jumpei Kusikami seeing the scoreline finish at 1-1.
Head Coach John Aloisi was disappointed with the second-half performance but says it shows great character in the side to come away with a draw.
“We’re disappointed with our performance but the Wanderers are a good team. We came here and played against a team that dominated and we found it hard,” Aloisi said.
