After a stunning start to its inaugural season, the SEQ Futsal Premier League returns in round two with another series of eye-catching clashes.
Three venues will play host to junior, youth and senior matches as Queensland’s premier futsal competition ramps up.
WOMEN | South Brisbane v Redlands City
Saturday, 15 October – 1.00pm
Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre, Brisbane
South Brisbane were made to fight for their opening round 6-5 win over Arana United and will be keen to continue their winning form into Saturday’s hosting of Redlands City.
Redlands, alternatively, were on the wrong side of a lone-goal loss in falling 7-6 away to Bundaberg Wildcats.
Brooke Leslie and Debora Santos both scored doubles in that match in a sign of the side’s potential.
However, with nine rounds remaining, there’s little time to lose in securing enough points for a top four finish.
MEN | South Brisbane v Redlands City
Saturday, 15 October – 2.15pm
Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre, Brisbane
The first men’s fixture of the round sees two unbeaten teams go head-to-head in a clash of experience against youth.
South Brisbane’s Puma F-League know-how paid off in a 9-4 defeat of Arana United, although it wasn’t enough to top the table after week one.
Redlands had their hopes of a first-up victory dashed at the death by a battling Bundaberg but still came away with plenty of positives from their trip north, where an entertaining 8-8 draw hinted at the drama to come.
With plenty of youth talent rounding out their squad, the visitors should hold no fears about heading to the home of the favourites.
WOMEN | Peninsula Futsal Club v Bundaberg Wildcats
Saturday, 15 October – 3.00pm
Clontarf Beach SHS, Clontarf
Peninsula grabbed perhaps the result of the round last weekend when two second-half goals helped the Redcliffe outfit to the first away win of the season on the Sunshine Coast.
With club captain Katherine Kirkwood conceding the fewest goals of any senior goalkeeper in round one, Peninsula look to be tricky opposition for any team.
They won’t find it easy against Bundaberg though after the Wildcats scored freely in their win at home to Redlands.
This match will make for an interesting early indication of top four potential.
MEN | Peninsula Futsal Club v Bundaberg Wildcats
Saturday, 15 October – 4.30pm
Clontarf Beach SHS, Clontarf
Peninsula’s men will be pleased to rally home support for the first time having been outplayed away to Sunshine Coast Wave last weekend.
Three individual goalscorers weren’t enough to trouble Sunshine Coast but did set a platform to build upon and that begins against Bundaberg in Clontarf.
Wildcats will likewise be eager to secure their first win of the campaign after fighting for a point against Redlands in round one, where Laurie Stephenson’s sparkling hattrick underscored the individual talent on show.
WOMEN | Arana United v Sunshine Coast Wave
Saturday, 15 October – 3.00pm
Bowen Hills YMCA, Brisbane
First competition points are on the line at Bowen Hills as Arana United and Sunshine Coast Wave seek to kick-start their campaigns following opening round defeats.
Arana, led by Gabby Zgrajewski’s two goals, went within a whisker of snatching a point at South Brisbane having been level at half-time.
They will fancy their chances at home to Sunshine Coast on Saturday as they aim to join the competition’s top teams.
The hosts, however, must be wary of a team which boasts PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues experience continuing to find their footing in the SEQ Futsal Premier League.
MEN | Arana United v Sunshine Coast Wave
Saturday, 15 October – 4.15pm
Bowen Hills YMCA, Brisbane
Arana United’s tough start to the season doesn’t get any easier in round two as an in-form Sunshine Coast side venture to Brisbane’s north side.
After visiting South Brisbane last Saturday, Arana will be keen to squeeze every inch from their home advantage against a team which notched nine goals in a dazzling round one performance.
Joshua Nisbet bagged three and Julian Edwards a double in that commanding victory and Sunshine Coast will be eager to maintain that momentum heading into next weekend’s hosting of South Brisbane.
Arana, however, have budding stars of their own including ex-Brisbane Roar midfielder Conor O’Neill, who hit all four of his side’s goals against South Brisbane.
