Football Queensland has today received notification from the Wide Bay Buccaneers confirming the withdrawal of their application for a National Premier Leagues Women’s Queensland licence.
Football Queensland offered the Buccaneers a NPLW QLD licence in July in an endeavour to grow and develop football within the Wide Bay region, subject to the club meeting a range of criteria.
Despite a significant amount of work in recent months, the registration numbers have not reached a level that would ensure a sustainable program.
This withdrawal affects only the NPLW application, meaning the club’s Men and Junior Boys will be issued with a licence to compete in the Football Queensland Premier League in 2018, subject to meeting the required criteria.
FQ will continue to work with FQ Wide Bay to create opportunities for women and girls in the region, with FQ Wide Bay also working with local clubs to develop a localised program.
Clubs across the state are preparing for the 2018 season and the launch of Queensland’s expanded competition structure.
FQ will keep members informed of any further changes to the list of teams competing in NPL, NPLW and FQPL.
