Queensland’s Under 14 and Under 15 sides today played their final games at the FFA National Youth Championships for Girls.
The Under 14s finished on a high, beating Tasmania 8-0, while the Under 15s lost 2-0 to NSW Metro Blue.
Queensland’s Mia Bailey was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament for the Under 14s age group.
State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer, who was in Coffs Harbour for the week, said he was impressed with the standard of football played by Queensland’s Under 14 and Under 15 teams.
“Overall, it was a great Championships and the skill level is improving every year,” he said.
“Our players did well on an individual level and we were impressed at how they performed as a team, considering the team is made up of players from Coolangatta to Cairns that don’t get a chance to play much together.
“Queensland players always have that grit about them, they dig deeper and have that never give up attitude – that’s what sets them apart from other states.”
Ganczer said the tournament was also an important coach development opportunity as well.
“Our coaches learned new things and we were able to consult with other coaches and Technical Directors from across the country,” he said.
“Knowledge exchange in female football is very valuable.”
