Queensland’s best female futsal players will represent the state at the inaugural Gold Coast Futsal International Challenge, kicking off tomorrow.
The Queensland team will face the New Zealand Futsal Ferns in their opening match on Thursday, 17 January, before taking on Football West, Capital Football and Football Victoria teams on the following days of the competition.
Queensland Head Coach Justin Morrison said he was confident the team would be at their best for the tournament despite the disrupted preparation over the Christmas period.
“The playing group are excited and looking forward to showcasing women’s futsal in front of the Queensland home crowd and we’re confident with their support the team will be there at the business end of the competition on Sunday afternoon,” Morrison said.
“We’ve had a limited build up given the time of year leading into Christmas coinciding with the players’ busy schedules outside of futsal, however I’m confident in the talent that we have selected, and the players have come together well when we’ve been able to train.
“We have a number of players with National Futsal League (F League) and SEQ Premier League experience which will assist them greatly in this high level competition and I’ll be able to call upon previous player partnerships and club combinations in those pressure moments.”
The Gold Coast Futsal International Challenge will be held at the Gold Coast between 17 January and 21 January 2019.
