The Gold Coast Futsal International Challenge took place at the Gold Coast Leisure Centre and Carrara Indoor Stadium over the weekend, with Queensland’s state women’s team impressing to finish the tournament as runners up behind the visiting New Zealand side.
The event saw three Australian state teams and the New Zealand national women’s futsal side play each other twice across the four days.
The New Zealand Futsal Ferns won the tournament with a dominant display, going undefeated in all six matches to claim the title.
Justin Morrison’s Queensland team recorded two wins against Football West and one win against Football Victoria, including an impressive 11-3 victory over the Western Australians.
Football Queensland (FQ) Futsal Administrator Trevor Edwards said the Queensland side were impressive throughout the tournament.
“The Gold Coast Futsal International Challenge provided a great platform for our best female futsal players to represent the state at an elite level,” Edwards said.
“They definitely did the state proud in their performances against the other state teams and the New Zealand national side.
“Following this tournament, I’m looking forward to more opportunities for our women’s futsal program in Queensland to continue to develop and grow.”
