National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland newcomers Peninsula Power and Eastern Suburbs will face off in an exciting Match of the Round in Round 2 this Saturday night.
The 2018 Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) Grand Finalists have both had a strong start to their NPL campaign after being promoted from the FQPL for the 2019 season.
Peninsula Power secured the inaugural Football Foundation Cup last week, defeating last year’s NPL Premiers Lions FC 3-2, while Easts claimed a 3-1 victory over Sunshine Coast FC in Round 1 of the NPL season.
Players to watch
With 2018 leading goal-scorer Dean Briggs still out of action for Peninsula Power due to injury, Sam Cronin will be one to keep an eye on around the box, having scored both of his team’s goals in their Round 1 win against Lions.
Meanwhile Easts are without Golden Boot winner Youeil Shol this season after a move to Olympic FC, but Jordan Farina has continued his impressive goal-scoring form from 2018 – which saw him score 25 goals in as many matches – netting a double against Sunshine Coast FC in Easts’ NPL Queensland campaign opener.
Last time they met
The last time the two teams faced off was in last year’s FQPL Grand Final, where Peninsula Power ran out 2-0 victors thanks to a Dean Briggs brace to complete their undefeated season and secure the Premiership-Championship double.
