Football Queensland (FQ) launched Welcoming Tournaments at the Eagles Sports Complex over the weekend, partnering with the Indian Cultural and Sports Club to deliver a multi-sports event involving football, cricket and volleyball.
Welcoming Tournaments will provide a year-round program of sporting activities for the multicultural community in locations across Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich.
16 football teams from the local multicultural community competed over the two days, with a total of 38 games played in the tournament organised in collaboration with Welcoming Australia and For the Love of the Game.
After round robin pool games were completed on Saturday, teams were divided into a Champions group and a Challengers group based on their pool placings, with knockout games held on Sunday.
Zimbabwean team Black Rhinos won the Champions final in exciting fashion, defeating Vietnamese Community Team 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, while Winning Eleven FC defeated Korea 2-0 in the Challengers final.
