We know football is the largest participant sport in Queensland with 173,116 participants which includes 70,273 registered players in our 317 local clubs. Football also has the fastest growing participation rate of any sport in Australia.
In 2018, 1.8 million Australians played football. However, many clubs around the state have had to turn away thousands of players because of inadequate local infrastructure.
To make our game even stronger, Football Queensland has been lobbying all major federal political parties to ensure football gets its fair share of federal funding for local community facilities.
Since May 2018, on behalf of zones and clubs, Football Queensland has met or communicated with MPs and candidates to put forward the infrastructure needs of our local clubs and to request funding commitments. This is to help ensure we have the fields, lights and facilities needed for our game.
Football Queensland believes it is important for participants and supporters of our game to be aware of the different support and commitments we have been given by the political parties and candidates.
Below are two lists: firstly, a list of election commitments current as at Thursday 16th May 2019 and secondly, a list of 2019 Federal Government Budget and Sports Australia Grants announcements made in the last six months. Click on the buttons below to view both lists.
We will endeavour to provide you an update as we receive any other commitments.
