Standout performers at the halfway mark of the NPLW season

May 16, 2019

With the halfway mark behind the teams now and minds fully focused on either on making top six or having a solid finish to the season, it’s time to look at who have been some of the top players so far this season.

How are players selected?

Throughout the season, Football Queensland (FQ) has been collecting coaches’ votes to determine Team of the Week (TOTW) each round. Coaches select three opposition players each game in the style of a 3-2-1.

For the following Team of the Season midway update, players have been selected based on how many times they’ve been selected in the Team of the Week.

If players have had an equal number of TOTW selections, players are selected based on total number of coach votes per game.

If players are on equal TOTW selections and coach votes, then for forwards and goalkeepers selection is based on the number of goals scored/conceded per match, while midfielders and defenders have been separated based on least number of red and yellow cards.

Read more about who made the TOTS after 13 rounds below.

STARTING XI:

Coco Majstorovic (Moreton Bay United): The Moreton Bay United keeper has been a consistent performer between the sticks this season for the top of the table team. Majstorovic has featured three (3) times in TOTW this season.

Claire Farrington (Logan Lightning): The ever reliable defender has been a rock for Lightning this season, featuring in every match so far. Farrington has made three (3) appearances in TOTW.

Momo Hayashi (Gold Coast United): The tenacious central defender joined Gold Coast this season signing from Japanese women’s second division club Okayama Yunogo Belle. Hayashi’s excellent passing game and dominance in the air has earned her three (3) TOTW appearances this season.

Cannon Clough (Lions FC): The American has been a regular in the TOTWs for her solid defending style, which has helped Lions in conceding just eight goals, and has also chipped in  four goals. The attacking left back has featured five (5) times in TOTW, more than any other defender.

Stephanie Latham (Capalaba): The Capalaba skipper has featured in TOTW more times than any other midfielder this season, featuring five (5) times. The commanding midfielder has scored two goals and made a handful of assists in the first half of the season.

Mariel Hecher (Lions FC): Captain of the only unbeaten team in the competition, Hecher has led by example scoring nine goals and is a workhorse both in attack and defence. The Lions skipper has three (3) TOTW appearances under her belt.

Rie Kitano (Gold Coast United): Coming from Japan’s Nadeshiko League, one of the most technically skilled women’s competitions in the world, she has exceptional composure and ability on the ball. Kitano has three goals and featured three (3) times in TOTW this season.

Tahnai Annis (Mitchelton): Killer goals and pinpoint assists have seen Annis become one of the top players in the competition. The Mustangs midfielder has scored five goals this season, including a couple of Goals of the Week nominations. Annis has three (3) appearances in TOTW.

Amy Chapman (Souths United): The former W-League forward has been in blistering form this season, scoring 11 goals including two hat-tricks. Chapman has featured in TOTW five (5) times.

Rylee Baisden (Moreton Bay): The American forward has been a dominating figure for her top-of-the-table side, scoring 19 goals this season, including three hat-tricks and a seven-goal haul. Baisden has made five (5) TOTW appearances so far.

Tegan Riding (Lions FC): Riding has been a vital part of her side’s unbeaten start to the season, scoring 10 goals and featuring in TOTW on three (3) occasions.
