The top six could see a shake-up this weekend as the top six teams all battle against each other in Round 15 of the FQPL.
Logan Lightning will host Rochedale Rovers, while Ipswich Knights will take on second-placed Capalaba FC and ladder leaders Sunshine Coast Wanderers clash with third-placed Mitchelton FC in the Match of the Round.
The fight for promotion is well and truly on this weekend in the Round 15 Match of the Round, which can be viewed live and on demand on the FQ website, FQ Facebook and FQ YouTube.
The last time Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Mitchelton FC played each other, Wanderers came away with a 2-1 win after goals from Jay Stewart and Joshua Forshey.
Unfortunately, the Wanderers will be without centre back Sam Knight this weekend after he suffered a serious leg injury in the team’s win against Rochedale Rovers last weekend.
A recent run of form from the team propelled them to the top of the table, but it’s only a narrow lead as it stands.
Mitchelton also come into the match off the back of consecutive wins and are within reach of a top two spot which could mean promotion to the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland for 2020.
However, Mitchelton are yet to beat Sunshine Coast Wanderers.
They came close in their first FQPL meeting back in 2018 which resulted in a 3-3 draw after the Wanderers fought back from a 3-1 deficit to score twice in seven minutes.
Will Mitchelton be able to make it three wins in a row this weekend against the ladder leaders?
MATCH DETAILS
Sunshine Coast Wanderers v Mitchelton FC
Sunday, 7 July, 4pm
Ballinger Park
Other matches to watch:
Logan Lightning v Rochedale Rovers
Lightning have two games in hand after their match in Round 22 against Holland Park was washed out, and will come into their match against Rochedale Rovers looking for a win after going three games without. With games in hand, their hopes of being promoted to the NPL Queensland are still alive. However, they sit only just ahead of their opponents Rochedale who have had a mixed run of results. It will be the two teams’ first meeting this season after their earlier clash was re-scheduled for later in July.
Ipswich Knights v Capalaba FC
Capalaba FC will look to continue the form that has seen them lose only one game in their last five as they fight to maintain their top two spot. Currently sitting one point behind ladder leaders Sunshine Coast Wanderers, Capalaba can claim another important three points in their quest for promotion as they travel to take on mid-table Ipswich Knights this weekend.
Players to watch:
Carter Glockner (Mitchelton FC): Glockner has scored in all but three appearances this season and will be vital in his side’s clash against the ladder leaders this weekend.
Craig Peck (Wolves FC): The young defender has been solid in the defensive line. Peck wasn’t in action in Round 14 due to the game being washed out but he’ll be back on the park this weekend.
Jeremy Stewart (Sunshine Coast Wanderers): Stewart has scored doubles in his last four games to take his season tally to 15 goals.
