Football Queensland (FQ) is pleased to announce the four nominees for the 2019 Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) Player of the Year Award.
Ryo Ono, Jeremy Stewart, Graham Fyfe and Nicholas Arden have been nominated for the FQPL Player of the Year Award, which will be presented at the 2019 Football in Queensland Awards Night next month.
Capalaba FC’s Ryo Ono was key to his side’s attack all year, causing problems for opposition defence throughout the season thanks to his lightning pace, flair on the ball and goal-scoring ability. The dynamic forward scored 10 goals in 18 matches, and led his team to promotion thanks to a stunning brace in Capalaba’s vital Round 18 win over Logan Lightning. Ono made seven Team of the Week appearances throughout the year as he helped his side to a top two finish, earning a spot in the 2019 FQPL Team of the Season.
This year’s FQPL Golden Boot winner Jeremy Stewart scored an incredible 20 goals in 18 regular season matches to lead Sunshine Coast Wanderers to the Premiership and promotion to the NPL Queensland. A standout player for his side this season, Stewart’s impact in attack was vital to Sunshine Coast’s Premiership campaign and earned him a spot in the FQPL Team of the Week on six occasions, and the 2019 Team of the Season.
Rochedale Rovers’ Graham Fyfe was his side’s leading goal scorer in 2019, and one of Rochedale’s most influential players throughout the year. Netting 12 goals in 18 matches, the attacking midfielder helped his side to Grand Final glory in a stunning season that earned him an impressive seven selections in the FQPL Team of the Week. After his consistent strong performance throughout the 2019 season, Fyfe was also selected in the Team of the Season.
Sunshine Coast Wanderers captain Nicholas Arden steered his side to the 2019 FQPL Premiership and subsequent promotion to the NPL Queensland in a dominant season for Wanderers. Arden led by example throughout the year, with his reliable and no-nonsense defending providing a crucial element in Wanderers’ 2019 campaign and earning him an appearance in the FQPL Team of the Week on six occasions, and selection in the 2019 Team of the Season.

How players are nominated
As per the 2019 Competition Regulations, Player of the Year is awarded based on a combination of referee 3-2-1 votes, Team of the Season votes, and other reasonable justification such as overall team performance or disciplinary record.
A player is ineligible to win the Player of the Year Award if the player has been suspended as a result of receiving a direct red card in a match or as a result of a Disciplinary Committee Hearing or Match Review Panel, as stated in the 2019 Competition Regulations.
The 2019 Football in Queensland Awards Night will be held on Saturday, 2 November in the Grand Windsor Ballroom at the Pullman Hotel in Brisbane.
A variety of awards will be presented on the night, recognising the outstanding achievements of individuals and clubs at both community level and from FQ’s Premier competitions.
