Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the four nominees for the 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award, to be presented this Saturday night at the Football in Queensland Awards Night.

West Wanderers FC Secretary Doug Spinks has been nominated in recognition of his efforts at the club, where he has volunteered since 2009. In addition to his duties as Secretary, Spinks also dedicates time marking the fields at the club and as a coach of a junior team.

As Secretary at Albany Creek Excelsior, Sarah Dixon is the primary contact for over 1,000 members at the club. Dixon goes above and beyond to help club members, and is described as the backbone of nearly all club events including carnivals, sign on days, holiday clinics and presentation days.

James Cook University (JCU) Strikers’ Eamonn Gilbert has taken on the role of club Vice President for the eighth consecutive year in 2019. Gilbert also volunteers coaching and managing the Reserve Men and Division 2 Men’s sides, and acts as coordinator for the ALDI MiniRoos Kick Off program. Gilbert is a regular supporter at junior matches despite having no junior players at the club.

Sharon Flannery tirelessly commits over 20 hours of time each week volunteering at Holland Park Hawks. In addition to organising fundraising events, Flannery also meets with local members of parliament regularly to seek assistance and support for projects that will improve club facilities and the experience of club members. Flannery has also developed a five-year club strategy focusing on growing grassroots football and working towards a financially-sustainable club.

The 2019 Football in Queensland Awards Night will be held this Saturday, 2 November in the Grand Windsor Ballroom at the Pullman Hotel in Brisbane.

A variety of awards will be presented on the night, recognising the outstanding achievements of individuals and clubs at both community level and from FQ’s Premier competitions.
