Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the four nominees for the 2019 Service to Football Award.
The Service to Football Award will be presented this Saturday night at the 2019 Football in Queensland Awards Night.
Eastern Suburbs FC Junior Vice President Anna Giuffrida’s involvement with the club spans back to 1985. In her current role, Giuffrida covers all executive roles including coaching and managing. Her passion and dedication to developing junior footballers can be seen through her ‘Tiger Cub’ program for MiniRoos at the club which she has organised and run for the past five years. Giuffrida is known in the Eastern Suburbs community for her approachable nature, love for the game and desire to see more players, particularly young female players, have the opportunity to play.
Henry Heyer has completed 34 years of refereeing service with Sunshine Coast Football, with this year being his last. Heyer is recognised as the only active participant and only referee with life membership of Sunshine Coast Football, and was the Referee Chair on the Zone Council from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, Heyer was honoured with Football Queensland’s Mick Novakovic Award in Support of Young Referees for the significant impact he has had on the pursuit of excellence in junior referees on the Sunshine Coast.
Duncan McKenna has completed over 45 years of service to Palm Beach SC as a player, coach, manager, volunteer and committee member. McKenna was a major part of the early success of the club in the XXXX League and returned to the club in recent years as it was struggling with member numbers. In two years, he has helped Palm Beach increase its number of members and improve its financial state. McKenna also works hard to make sure the main field, which is named in memory of his father, is kept in pristine condition.
Brisbane Strikers’ Bob McLaren has dedicated years of service across all areas at the club. The Senior Men’s Team Manager from 2008 to 2017, McLaren is also the club handyman and has built, repaired and painted many of the structures around Perry Park including the grandstand, fencing and dressing rooms. McLaren volunteers at all home matches and for major events, assisting with set up, ground officials, BBQ operations and cleaning.
