Men’s SEQ FPL Round 9 and 10 Preview

November 22, 2019

The final rounds of the Men’s South East Queensland Futsal Premier League (SEQ FPL) regular season will be held this Saturday, 23 November at the State Netball Centre in Brisbane.

Four matches will be played across the two rounds, with all matches available to watch live and on demand on the Football Queensland (FQ) Facebook and YouTube.

ROUND 9:

Lions FC v Ipswich Futsal – 9:00am

Lions FC will look to return to winning ways in Round 9 and 10 of the SEQ FPL after recording a 4-2 loss in their last two match. If Lions are to maintain their top two spot, they will have to win both games this weekend with EliteFoot close on their tail, just one point behind in third.

Last time Lions FC met Round 9 opponents Ipswich Futsal, they recorded a convincing win in Round 1 of the SEQ FPL. Ipswich’s last win came two matches ago against Gold Coast Galaxy, but will bring some confidence into the match considering Lions’ recent form.

EliteFoot v Galaxy FC – 9:00am

EliteFoot currently sit in third place on the ladder, just one point behind Lions FC. Last weekend, the team triumphed over Ipswich Futsal and Lions FC in an 8-1 and 4-2 win respectively, and will look to extend this winning streak as they come up against Galaxy FC this weekend.

Their Gold Coast opponents will set out to return to winning form in their Round 9 encounter after recording losses in their last three matches.

Round 10:

Ipswich Futsal v Sunshine Coast Wave – 11:30am

Sitting atop the table on 19 points, Sunshine Coast Wave were crowned Premiers after last round thanks to an outstanding 2019 campaign. Securing six wins, one draw and no losses, Wave have also scored an incredible 42 goals across the season so far.

Last time Wave met Round 10 opponents Ipswich Futsal, the Premiers secured a 3-1 win thanks to a Corey Sewell brace. The Sunshine Coast Side will look for a strong finish to the regular season ahead of the SEQ FPL finals next month.

Lions FC v Galaxy FC – 11:30am

Lions FC will need to secure victory against Galaxy FC this weekend if they are to hold onto their top two spot ahead of finals.

The last time the two sides met, Lions’ Adam Stacey scored a double to help his team to a 4-2 victory in Round 5 of the SEQ FPL.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Hugo Labaredas (EliteFoot): Currently the leading goal scorer for his team with 11 goals to his name so far in just seven matches, Labaredas has proven to be a standout player in the 2019 SEQ FPL season. Having scored three goals across EliteFoot’s Round 7 and 8 matches, he will be one to keep an eye on this weekend.

Benjamin Bordin (Galaxy FC): Also leading his team’s goal scoring tally with seven to his name, Bordin has been essential for Galaxy FC throughout the season. While Galaxy’s form has been slipping in recent matches, Bordin will be key in helping his side turn things around this weekend.

Jerrod Byrne (Sunshine Coast Wave): Having played the most matches for Wave so far this season, Byrne scored his first two goals of the year in their 13-2 Round 8 win against Galaxy FC. Byrne will be a key player to watch this weekend when Wave take on Ipswich Futsal in Round 10 of the SEQ FPL.
