Football Federation Australia (FFA) has today announced that Queensland referee Chris Beath will officiate this year’s Hyundai A-League Grand Final between Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC.
Beath’s appointment marks the eighth Hyundai A-League Grand Final in the last nine years that has been officiated by a Queensland referee.
He will be joined by fellow Queenslander Alex King, who has been appointed Fourth Official for the 2020 Grand Final to be held this Sunday, 30 August at Bankwest Stadium.
The appointment marks Beath’s first appearance as a referee for a Hyundai A-League Grand Final, having previously been fourth official (2019) and Additional Assistant Referee (2016) for the Championship decider.
“Chris is one of our most experienced and internationally respected match officials,” said FFA Head of Leagues Greg O’Rourke.
“This appointment is due recognition for his outstanding efforts throughout the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season and Hyundai A-League 2020 Finals Series.
“Our congratulations also go out to Scott, Kearney, Alex, Ryan and Kris who will form the match officials team for the Hyundai A-League 2020 Grand Final.”
Beath and King will be joined by Assistant Referees Scott Edeling and Kearney Robinson, Ryan Gallagher as Fifth Official and Kris Griffiths-Jones as the Video Assistant Referee.
