Building on the back of Football Queensland’s (FQ) fresh approach to digital content delivery, global interest in FQ’s premier competitions is booming as engagement rates soar in the lead-up to the Finals Series period.
FQ’s Facebook reach rocketed past 10.2 million people in September alone – a 632% increase on the 2020 monthly average from January to August – as multiple videos went viral amid the excitement surrounding the NPL Men’s, NPL Women’s and Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL).
The month’s top-performing social media piece – Mason Cross’ stunning debut goal for Gold Coast Knights in the Gold Coast Derby – has been watched more than 1.9 million times on Facebook, with eyeballs drawn in big numbers from across Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States.
Posts highlighting James Meyer’s exceptional five-goal performance for Eastern Suburbs in Round 14 and Corey Sewell’s vital late winner for Olympic FC in Round 15 also proved incredibly popular, surpassing 1.4 million and 1.2 million people in total reach respectively.
“FQ is proud to shine a light on the players delivering memorable moments in our competitions and, as we proved through the engaging content pieces that were rolled out during the COVID-19 lockdown period, FQ is agile and creative when it comes to growing the game and connecting with the football community,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Broadening our audience base unlocks new commercial opportunities for all levels of the game throughout the state and we are pleased that so many people are engaging regularly and deeply with FQ’s competitive football products.”
FQ’s live match streams experienced a similar surge in Facebook reach during September, recording a 99% increase on the established 2020 average.
The viral content, meanwhile, has spanned multiple age groups, with a Community Goal of the Week video capturing Kyal Sorensen’s skillful nutmeg and finish for Gold Coast United’s U9 SAP side totalling in excess of 1.1 million views and 2 million post impressions.
Now, with the new NPL.TV mobile app for iOS and Android delivering additional exposure, the NPL Men’s, NPL Women’s and FQPL competitions are in the spotlight leading into next month’s Finals Series.
