Some stunning scorelines headlined Round 3 of the FFA Cup for South East Queensland, with teams from across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast booking their spot in the next round.
Three Round 3 matches are still to be played after falling victim to the wet weather over the weekend, and have been rescheduled to this coming weekend – Tallebudgera Valley will take on Magic United, Logan Metro will host Coomera FC and Nerang FC will face Taringa FC between Friday, 26 February and Saturday, 27 February.
No South West Queensland teams remain in the competition after three sides fell to disappointing Round 3 defeats, but the region will still be represented as Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) team SWQ Thunder join the FFA Cup in Round 4 alongside all FQPL and National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland teams.
BIG SCORELINES HEADLINE ROUND 3
Seven or more goals were scored across three matches as Surfers Paradise Apollo put 10 goals past Brisbane-based side The Gap, St George Willawong defeated Toowoomba’s West Wanderers 7-0 and Sunshine Coast side Buderim Wanderers scored 12 goals against Ipswich City Bulls.
88TH MINUTE WINNER IN 11-GOAL THRILLER
The Lakes FC survived a stunning Burleigh Heads comeback to secure their spot in Round 4 thanks to an 88th minute winner in an 11-goal thriller. The Lakes led 5-1 before the Gold Coast side scored four unanswered goals to equalise and send the game to a nail-biting finish, with the hosts coming out on top.
SUNSHINE COAST SIDES SHINE
Three Sunshine Coast sides remain in the FFA Cup competition after recording Round 3 wins. Caloundra FC defeated Rockville Rovers in a close 2-1 clash, while Buderim Wanderers and Nambour Yandina United booked their spot in Round 4 with wins against Ipswich City Bulls and Brisbane Knights respectively.
