Football Queensland (FQ) will host Australia’s first-ever Walking Football referee course later this month at Meakin Park in a major boost for one of the newest forms of the game.
The free referee course will be held on Saturday, 27 March and will cover Walking Football Laws of the Game and basic match management.
“Football Queensland is delighted to announce that we will deliver the first-ever Walking Football referee course in Australia right here at Meakin Park,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The delivery of the course reflects FQ’s commitment to providing high-quality, accessible participation experiences for all Queenslanders as we create more opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to join our game.
“Improving coach and referee development is also a strong focus for Football Queensland, so we’re excited to provide this unique opportunity to become a referee for one of the newest forms of the game as we continue to grow our participation base across the state.”
“It has been fantastic to see the popularity and growth of Walking Football here in Queensland, with programs currently running across a number of clubs and venues and a range of tournaments taking place throughout the year,” FQ Officer – Walking Football Alan Templeton said.
“We’re also extremely excited that Walking Football will be part of the Pan Pacific Masters Games being held on the Gold Coast in November, representing a significant step forward for the modified form of the game.”
“As the Walking Football programs on offer around the state continue to grow, it is important that we develop referees who can officiate Walking Football matches and tournaments to support the growth of the game,” FQ Senior Manager – State Referees Jacqui Hurford said.
“I’d encourage existing referees and those who are interested in becoming a referee to take advantage of this opportunity to broaden their skillset by completing the free Walking Football referee course being delivered by Football Queensland.”
Registrations for the Walking Football referee course close on Thursday, 25 March.
