Queensland registration numbers climb in huge year for referee education

December 20, 2021

Referee numbers across Queensland are continuing to climb, with Football Queensland’s commitment to referee education and development resulting in a 37% increase in referee registrations in 2021.

A 55% increase in registered female referees was also recorded as FQ delivered courses to over 1,000 participants around the state this year.

Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said growth in referee registrations at all levels of the game would help to reach the Strategic Plan target of 2,200 registered referees by the end of 2022.

“Football Queensland was proud to deliver 76 referee courses across the state this year, including 59 Level 4 courses with over 1,000 participants,” Cavallucci said.

“Recording a 55% increase in female referee registrations in 2021 was a fantastic outcome for our game and a reflection of our ongoing commitment to developing more opportunities for women and girls to join our game not only as players but also as coaches and referees.

“Our focus on increasing the number of futsal referees here in Queensland also saw the delivery of four futsal-specific courses as we continue to expand referee education opportunities in the state.

“After the huge number of Level 4 courses facilitated this year, 2022 will be a crucial year for growing our senior referee base as we transition these match officials to the next stage in their refereeing through the delivery of additional Level 3 courses, four of which will be held in February across South East Queensland, Rockhampton and Townsville.”

A number of referee courses in early 2022 are currently listed on the Football Queensland website.

Register for an upcoming referee course here.

Referee registrations are also now open for the 2022 season via the Play Football website.

All referees including those officiating in the NPL Queensland and FQPL competitions are required to register to their region.
