With the finish line in sight for season 2022, each game turns up the pressure on teams to perform with valuable points and positions still up for grabs.
FQPL 3 Darling Downs Women
Green and Gold clash this Saturday night as the two Highfields squads face off. Green were unlucky not to come away with something against 3rd placed Rovers last weekend. They’ll be looking to see out their season with some intent and purpose. Meanwhile, Gold have snuck back to the top of the ladder, but with Willowburn having a game in hand, they’ll know a win is essential to keep the pressure back on the magpies.
In the match of the round, USQFC’s finals aspirations are hanging dangerously close to being over, but a win over Hawks who sit in fourth could move them within in one point of making the top four. On the other side of the equation, a win to Hawks could pretty much seal their spot for finals football for the second consecutive season. With so much at stake, it’ll come down to who can handle the pressure.
Willowburn take on Rockville Rubies on Sunday morning, and after having not played last weekend due to wet weather, a number of their key players will be well rested and ready for a Rockville Rubies outfit that have every intention on finishing their season strongly and finishing as high as possible on the competition ladder.
Rockville Rovers have all but sealed a top four spot for the finals campaign, however the squad will be looking for some more confidence after only coming away with a narrow 1-0 win to Highfields Green. They take on a Wanderers team with a new coach, and some new found belief that they can finish the season better than what they started.
FQPL 3 Darling Downs Men
It’s a case of déjà vu in the men’s competition, as this week’s rounds are identical to last week due to catch up rounds caused by wet weather.
Rockville continue their march up the ladder, now moving within just one point of 4th placed Gatton. The Rovers snared a 2-0 win over Highfields and they’ll be keen to double that up this weekend to apply even more pressure. Highfields
A 4-0 win over Gatton Redbacks last weekend was a emphatic statement from Wanderers that they are starting to find some form at the right time of the season. All indicators would point to a strong response from Gatton this weekend, as is their custom. With the margins so fine between 3rd and 5th spots, there is very little room for error and this fixture will come down to who can hold their nerve.
Willowburn have an opportunity to take their second piece of silverware for the season (minor premiership) and also an opportunity to play for FQPL 2 promotion if they can beat St Albans this Saturday night. The magpies who remain unbeaten in 2022 put a halt to the St Albans winning streak last Sunday with a dominant 4-0 display. Now St Albans will look to return their favour on their home ground this Saturday night. But both teams will have to play without some key personnel as late in the game two players were given the marching orders.
