Queensland is set for a blockbuster month of football action as Super September kicks off with a host of events across the state, headlined by two unmissable CommBank Matildas and Socceroos matches at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
Super September will get underway with the Kappa Women’s Super Cup Final at Goodwin Park on Friday, 2 September, which kicks off a huge weekend for the women’s game including the launch of the Our Game Network ahead of the CommBank Matildas’ match against Olympic Gold medalists Canada on 3 September.
“There has never been a more exciting time to be part of our game here in Queensland as we approach the business end of the season and kick off a massive month of football this September with national team matches in Brisbane, major events across the state and thrilling Grand Final clashes from the NPL Queensland to our regional FQPL Finals,” FQ President Ben Richardson said.
“Every member of our football community will be able to get amongst the action as Super September gets underway with something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what part of Queensland you’re from and whether you’re out on the pitch or cheering on from the sidelines.
“In what will be a major highlight of Super September, we can’t wait to welcome Australia’s most loved national team to Brisbane for the first time in four years as the CommBank Matildas take on Canada next month, giving our Queensland fans the chance to see our country’s best female footballers in action ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
“We’re delighted also to be hosting the Socceroos’ final match in Australia prior to their FIFA World Cup campaign as they play New Zealand in a special commemorative clash as part of the 100 Years of Socceroos celebrations.”
“As we welcome Australia’s national teams next month, our brightest young Queenslanders from across the FQ Academy program will get the opportunity to shine on the national stage representing our Queensland state teams when the National Youth Championships return to Coffs Harbour from 19-23 September for girls and 26-30 September for boys, after a two-year absence due to COVID-19,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Queensland’s best young futsal players will also vie for state team selection at the FQ Futsal State Titles this September on 24-25 September, while the brand new FQ Academy Under 12 Cup (17-19 September) and the FQ Community Cup (20-23 September) will see hundreds of junior footballers converge on the Sunshine Coast.
“As Super September continues, the first ever FQPL Champions League Semi Final clash between Cairns’ Edge Hill United and Bundaberg’s Across the Waves FC on 24 September will mark an exciting milestone following the introduction of connected competitions in 2022, which has created brand new opportunities for players and clubs across regional Queensland as a result of the Future of Football 2020+ reforms.
“Super September will also feature Grand Final events for region-based FQPL competitions across Queensland’s three conferences, while the 2022 season of the state’s Premier competitions will culminate in next month’s NPL Queensland and FQPL Grand Finals at Perry Park.
“We encourage Queenslanders to make the most of this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in our beautiful game and all the thrill and excitement that comes with it as Super September action takes place across the state.”
Tickets for the NPL, FQPL 1 and FQPL 2 Grand Finals are now on sale, with fans encouraged to purchase tickets online prior to match day to secure early bird pricing.
