Football Queensland has today confirmed the Wide Bay competition structures for the 2023 season following consultation with clubs and participants.
As the Future of Football 2020+ reforms continue to unite football across the state, a number of new products and competitions will be introduced in 2023 to create more opportunities for Queenslanders to get involved in the game.
“2022 has been another fantastic year of growth for the Wide Bay region, and we’re excited for an even bigger year for our game off the back of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and in 2023 as the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ comes to Queensland,” FQ General Manager – Central Coast Region Andy Allan said.
“As we welcome the biggest global women’s sporting event to our shores, women and girls will continue to be a major focus for Football Queensland next year with the introduction of some exciting new offerings that will provide more opportunities for female participants to join our game, regardless of their skill level or experience.
“We’re hopeful that combined with our existing options for female participants, this will allow women and girls to find a format that best suits them and their lifestyle as the demand for our game continues to increase across our region and the state as a whole.
“In 2023 we’re excited to introduce a Women’s social league in Wide Bay and an Over 35s Men’s league in addition to the return of the Intercity Cup competition.
“A Girls MiniRoos league is set to be introduced for under 9 and under 11 age groups with referees to be introduced for under 12.
“In the junior leagues, a number of competitions will be introduced in 2023 including an Under 13 and under 15 Girls competition.
“An increase in the number of FQPL junior competitions in the Wide Bay region will also see the introduction of Under 13 and Under 14 competitions and the under 15 competition will change to under 16.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, thank you to all participants in the Wide Bay region for a fantastic 2022 season, and we look forward to seeing you back out on the field in 2023.”
Registrations for the 2023 season will open in January.
