Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to welcome Queensland School Futsal (QSF) as an FQ affiliated member, joining the growing futsal community.
Formed in 2020 by Education Queensland teachers, Queensland School Futsal provides school team competitions for all age groups in futsal league and tournament structures throughout the school year.
Currently there are three main QSF competitions run throughout the year which include the QSF Cup (a two-day tournament for Under 13 and Under 14 boys and girls), a School Futsal League and a knockout competition, the Summit Cup.
QSF Chair and Mansfield State High School teacher, Alan Pradella said the QSF aims to provide further regional and state representation opportunities for all students across the state through their affiliation.
“It’s an ideal sport, it’s 5-a-side, you can play it on a tennis court or indoors and we can play it all the way through the year,” Pradella said.
Since affiliating with FQ, Pradella said they have already witnessed new schools participating in futsal competitions and new interest in QSF tournaments.
“The affiliation will provide us with access to benefits like sanctioned events and insurance, registration and competition management systems, as well as development in school programs and referees; it will also create a talented player pathway for us,” Pradella said.
“QSF would like to work with Football Queensland to increase participation in our regional and state school carnivals; we’re excited to extend our reach to those regions like northwest or southwest where there are smaller schools and provide participation opportunities for them,” Pradella said.
Recently FQ held an AFC Level 1 Futsal License course at Mansfield State High School, certifying 14 futsal coaches, Pradella hopes this to be the first of many.
“Even though many students in schools are playing futsal or are wanting to play futsal, schools are often restricted by the lack of staff with knowledge of the game so hopefully this partnership can provide more opportunities for staff in coaching courses,” Pradella said.
