Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the launch of its FQ Academy Emerging Female Program, a specialised initiative designed to supplement club programs, offering additional technical skills development for young female footballers under the guidance of FQ Academy and QAS technical staff.
Delivered as an eight-week, term-based program, the FQ Academy Emerging Female Program, now accepting Term 1 registrations, is open to female players of all experience levels aged between 9 and 13 and provides high-quality coaching in a structured and supportive training environment.
The program enhances each club’s ability to develop emerging players by offering FQ and QAS coaching staff the opportunity to provide targeted technical training during critical stages of development, supporting the FQ Academy development pathway as players progress toward state team and youth representation age groups.
“The launch of this program is an important step in our commitment to developing the women’s game in Queensland, as we aim to support our clubs, coaches, and players who are looking for, or would benefit from additional technical skill development,” FQ Manager – FQ Academy QAS Isaka Cernak said.
“The program is designed to complement existing club training, helping players enhance their technical skills and football knowledge during the critical skill acquisition phase of their development, benefiting both the individual player and their club environment.
“Led by FQ and QAS coaches, the program is tailored for players seeking extra skill development training, with a focus on foundational movement and motor-skills, ball control, decision-making, and confidence-building.
“This initiative is set to expand the depth of the state’s talent pool and ensure Queensland continues to be richly represented in and contributing to the success of our national teams across all age groups, including the CommBank Matildas, as we prepare for the next cycle of international competitions and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Aligned with FQ’s 2024–2026 Women and Girls Strategy including the target of achieving 50/50 gender parity by 2027, the FQ Academy Emerging Female Program is a key initiative in expanding our support of both female players and coaches, strengthening existing pathways and supporting the growth of female participation in football across Queensland.
“Beyond player development, the program also plays a crucial role in developing our state’s female coaches, providing nominated coaches with the opportunity to attend program training sessions, learn from experienced mentors, and gain hands-on coaching experience,” FQ General Manager – Football & State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“Supporting the growing number of female coaches is critical to the long-term success of the women’s game, and through this program, we are creating more opportunities for current and aspiring female coaches to develop their skills and advance their technical knowledge to take back to and implement at their own clubs.”
FQ remains dedicated to delivering high-quality development opportunities for women and girls at all levels and looks forward to supporting the next generation of female players and coaches through the new FQ Academy Emerging Female Program.
Football Queensland is actively working on expanding the FQ Academy Emerging Female Program with further updates to be provided as details are confirmed.
