Football Queensland (FQ) is seeking expressions of interest from appropriately skilled persons for the following appointments to be potentially considered by Members at Football Queensland’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (May/June 2025):
- Non-Executive Elected Board Director; and / or,
- Appointed Director on the FQ Board.
At Football Queensland, we continue to grow though exciting times as we leverage the massive success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, prepare for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 and embark on an important journey to reach 50/50 gender parity in participation by 2027.

Football Queensland is the governing body for Football and Futsal in Queensland. FQ exists to regulate, develop and grow the game at all levels by leading and supporting our clubs, volunteers, coaches, referees and stakeholders to provide exciting and enjoyable football experiences for all Queenslanders – anytime, anywhere.

Primary Purpose of the Roles
As a Board Director of Football Queensland, you will work alongside highly skilled and respected individuals who boast extensive experience across corporate, commercial, legal, financial management, infrastructure and sporting sectors.
You’ll play an integral role in shaping the future direction of the game as the state’s largest participation sport, representing our more than 330,000 statewide grassroots participants.
As a Board Director, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work across areas including strategy, risk, commercial, infrastructure and government relations while engaging with business and government networks for the benefit of the football community.
You’ll also contribute to the growth of football in Queensland in an incredibly exciting time for the game as we experience record increases in participation statewide and strive to reach our 50/50 gender parity target across all areas of participation by 2027.
Experience and Skills
We are seeking a non-executive elected director and / or an appointed director to join our Board. The desired skills for all Board positions are determined in reference to Football Queensland’s Board Skills Matrix which maps the required mix of skills and experience the Board requires to achieve its strategic objectives.
Applications are encouraged from accomplished and experienced ‘accounting or finance’ professionals who are passionate about delivering strong outcomes for football in Queensland.
Essential selection criteria include:
- A passion for making a positive impact in the community through sport
- Experience, skills and professional qualifications in the accounting or finance sectors
- The ability to think strategically to achieve long-term outcomes
- The ability to communicate effectively as a compelling storyteller
Desirable selection criteria include:
- Demonstrated experience in sports administration
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the sports sector in areas including event delivery and sports tourism
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the commercialisation of sport as an entertainment product, including broadcast rights and content streaming
- Demonstrated ability to engage with government and business networks for the benefit of the football community
- Knowledge and expertise in the areas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, diversity and inclusion
Commitment
Elections for Directors are conducted (and nominations are accepted) in accordance with the FQ Constitution.
As a Board Director, you will participate in up to eight Football Queensland Board meetings per year and committee meetings as required. You will share joint responsibility, with other Board Members, for setting and monitoring the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation. All FQ Director positions are voluntary.
You will be expected to establish a strong working relationship with the CEO and take a team-based approach to engaging in board discussions and engaging with the Board and management on all aspects of operations.
Football Queensland Board Directors are also required to be available to meet with sponsors and partners, and to attend both state and national corporate and major football events as you cultivate relationships with key stakeholders across the Australian football landscape.
This is a voluntary position and appointment to the Board will be based on a selection and interview process undertaken by a nominations committee with final endorsement by the Board to present to Members for election.

It should contain:
- A written application (no more than two pages) addressing why you would like to serve on the FQ Board, how you think your skills, attributes and/or experience will complement the Board and enhance FQ’s ability to deliver on its strategic plan and the key and desirable criteria. This written application should also describe your current commitments, and any perceived or actual conflicts of interest that relate to Football Queensland.
