Applications are now open for the next round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant program.
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund supports organisations to develop their facilities and purchase equipment and machinery to benefit their members and the community.
13 Queensland football clubs were approved for the grant program in May 2018, with over $280,000 worth of funds benefitting local football clubs in Queensland.
The approved clubs received up to $35,000 each for the upgrading of facilities such as outdoor lighting and roofing, installation of goal posts, nets and grandstands and purchasing of new equipment such as mowers and a defibrillator.
Virginia United FC was one of the Queensland clubs to be approved for the grant program in May, receiving funding to replace their aging spectator stands and install a ball catcher behind one of their goals.
Virginia United FC President Matt Winters said the Gambling Community Benefit Fund enabled the club to make improvements to its facilities without sacrificing other expenses.
“This is a great program that all clubs should have on their radar,” Winters said.
“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant can be used to cover a wide range of ‘must have’ or ‘nice to have’ projects with no club contribution so it has great benefit to all clubs and members.
“With rising costs, we’re always trying to keep member fees down. This program really helps improve the footballing experience for players, volunteers and spectators.”
The next round of Gambling Community Benefit Fund approval applications closes 30 November 2018 and Queensland clubs and zones are encouraged to consider projects that may meet the criteria of the program.
