Football Queensland’s commitment to enhancing referee development has led to the formation of a statewide Referee Academy for promising and dedicated young match officials.
The program enables the next generation to learn and develop as part of a supportive network while gaining valuable advice from experienced coaches.
Nominations for the 2025/26 FQ Referee Academy intake are now closed.

Junior Football Match Official (Level 4)
Once you complete your Junior Football Match Official field test you will be able to referee FQ Academy, Junior Community and School Football competitions.

Senior Football Match Official (Level 3)
Officiate in U23, Senior Community and FQPL 3 - 6 competitions, with opportunities to be an assistant in the FQPL 1 & 2. This is also the minimum level required to join the FQ Referee Academy.

Emerging Match Official (Level 2)
Referee in the NPL Queensland and FQPL 1 & 2 competitions with the opportunity to enter the National Referee Development Pathway.

Advanced Match Official (Level 1)
The highest level a referee can reach in Queensland, allowing you to referee in top-level state and national competitions.
