Officiating the world game
Looking for a new challenge within football? Or just looking for a way to earn some extra cash while staying involved in football? Refereeing is a great way to stay active and involved in the world game.
Queensland has a long and proud history of producing some of Australia’s best referees. Members of Queensland’s football community have officiated at the top level, both domestically and internationally, including in the Isuzu Ute A-League and Liberty A-League, AFC Champions League, AFC Asian Cup, FIFA Women’s World Cup and FIFA World Cup.
Whether you want to referee at the local level, remain active in the game following injury or retirement, or make a career out of refereeing, Football Queensland is dedicated to making your journey as rewarding as possible.
Become a referee - Key Steps
-
1. Register in Squadi
Register as a referee with Football Queensland in Squadi, either online or via the app. You will have to pay your registration fee and order your first year referee kit at this step.
-
2. Take the Online Laws of the Game Test
Complete the free online Laws of the Game test on Football Australia's eLearning platform, eTrainu. This is the first step to becoming a qualified referee and must be completed before you attend a course.
-
3. Attend a Referee Course
Once you have completed the Online Laws of the Game test and registered, you then need to attend a Level 4 or Level 3 RPL course. The Level 4 course is for anyone aged 13+ while the Level 3 RPL is for those aged 18+ with playing experience.
-
4. Complete a Field Test
To receive your full qualification, you must complete two field tests at community matches, organised by your local Referee Coach & Development Officer.
