100 Day Infrastructure Review SUBMISSION
Football Australia and Football Queensland jointly submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Queensland Government’s 100 day infrastructure review for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, outlining football’s vital role in shaping a lasting legacy for the Games.
As the state’s largest participation sport, football plays a central role in connecting communities and Brisbane 2032 provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to leverage this position, delivering world-class infrastructure that ensure the Games’ success while creating enduring social, economic, and sporting benefits.

Tier 2 Stadium
- A permanent 17,000 – 20,000 seat venue with the potential for an additional 13,000 temporary seats to be added during the Games.
- Designed to accommodate all rectangular sporting content, hosting international fixtures, domestic competitions, and community events as well as other sports, concerts and events.
- Strengthens Queensland’s ability to host international tournaments it is currently not well equipped for, including AFC Asian Cups, and provides a sustainable, high-quality experience for football fans.
- Addresses long-standing challenges with overuse and scheduling conflicts at Suncorp Stadium, ensuring players perform at their best on an optimised surface designed for football.

victoria park
- Football’s position is that the overall needs of the Games, the state of Queensland and the City of Brisbane, are best met through the development and delivery of an integrated, master planned sporting and entertainment infrastructure spine.
- This approach would provide a relevant and balanced mix of venues, such as the development of Victoria Park as the core precinct for major Olympic venues, including the development of the Olympic Stadium and Aquatic Centre.
- The master plan developed in the Brisbane Bold scheme decommissions the Gabba as a proposed Olympic venue and presents significant commercial opportunity to fund the development at Victoria Park.
- This precinct would be seamlessly connected to key transport nodes, including rail and metro, facilitating access to the CBD, airport, trade coast, and the proposed location for the Brisbane 2032 athletes’ village.
TRAINING VENUES
- More than 50 suitable training venues are likely to be required for the Olympic Football Tournament, with Paris 2024 having identified 108 suitable training camps for their tournament.
- With a greater deficiency of training site suitability in regional areas, a more cost-efficient solution would be to focus team training sites within Brisbane and its surrounds.
- The most impactful and legacy-leaving training site infrastructure solution in Brisbane would be the expansion of the Queensland State Home of Community Football at Meakin Park.
- This would see a total of 10 pitches constructed which has the capacity to host multiple participating OFT teams, as well as other sporting codes and Olympic teams.
- However, it would also be essential for other training site upgrades to occur in cities proposed to host OFT matches in Queensland in 2032 (i.e. Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Townsville).
