Football Queensland Fees 2027
Football Queensland’s 2027 fees are confirmed. The existing player enrolment process and the fee structure used in previous seasons will continue, and the proposed Competition Access Fee will not be introduced in 2027.
In 2027, the FQ player enrolment component will increase by $3 for Coles MiniRoos, $6 for Juniors and $10 for Seniors. This is the first increase to that component in six years. Community team fees will rise by approximately $2 per player on average. A separate technology and transaction service fee covers platform and payment costs and is not retained by FQ.
These are the only confirmed FQ fees for 2027. Figures that differ from them do not reflect the 2027 fee schedule. FQ’s charges are one component of a club’s total registration price, which also reflects the club’s own costs and other governing-body charges. Clubs can provide a breakdown of these components, along with information on any payment arrangements or assistance that may be available.
Football Queensland will not introduce the proposed Competition Access Fee in 2027.
We will retain the existing player and team enrolment process and use a revised fee structure for the 2027 season. This responds to queries about affordability,
complexity, consultation and the practical impact on clubs and volunteers.
| Player category | 2026 FQ Fee | FQ Fee Change | New FQ Fee | Service Fee (Technology and Transaction fees) | 2027 FQ Fee (incl. GST) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coles MiniRoos | $50 | $3 | $53 | $7 | $60 |
| Juniors | $66 | $6 | $72 | $8 | $80 |
| Seniors | $130 | $10 | $140 | $10 | $150 |
The service fee is not retained by Football Queensland. These amounts are FQ-related enrolment charges only, not the total cost of playing at a club.
FQ’s player enrolment component increases by $3 for Coles MiniRoos, $6 for Juniors and $10 for Seniors. This is the first increase to that component in six years. The separately identified technology and transaction service fee is also shown to explain the amount payable so families can see the complete charge.
Not necessarily. The FQ enrolment charge reflects 3-12% of participants’ fees, and is not the same as the total price charged by a club with the final amount including club charges. Families should receive a breakdown that distinguishes these components rather than assuming a change to one component applies to the entire registration price.
Football Queensland has decided the Competition Access Fee will not be introduced in 2027. That decision is not an announcement that it will be introduced in 2028.
Any future significant change affecting club operations or administration would only be considered after consultation with Congress, clubs and the broader football community.
We have listened to the concerns raised by clubs, volunteers and elected representatives. We acknowledge our communication and consultation did not provide the clarity stakeholders reasonably expected and accept responsibility for that. The revised approach retains a familiar process while addressing the costs of delivering services across the game.
We recognise that every additional cost matters to families. FQ has held its player enrolment component unchanged for seven years while absorbing rising costs associated with service delivery, technology, insurance, governance and safeguarding.
The adjustment seeks to balance affordability with maintaining the services that support community football. We do not dismiss the impact simply because the dollar increase is limited.
The FQ enrolment charge isn’t the same as the total price your club charges. Your final registration price can include club charges and other governing-body charges, and each club sets its own price.
Families should receive a breakdown that separates these components. If you’d like to understand your club’s price, or if cost is becoming a barrier, speak with your club before deciding not to register. Ask for a breakdown of the total price and whether any payment arrangements or assistance are available.
Earlier public discussion were not reflective of actual proposed changes. FQ’s public statement acknowledged concerns about its practical impact and the need for clearer communication. That proposed model will not proceed in 2027. The relevant information now is the revised enrolment schedule, alongside the other components of a club’s total registration price.
The proposal aimed to simplify administration and reduce the complexity of fragmented fees across the game. However, we accept that our communication and consultation did not meet expectations. The decision not to introduce the model in 2027 is a result of FQ listening and responding to those concerns by changing our approach.
Card and transaction costs associated with the FQ enrolment component are covered by the separate technology and transaction service fee, which is shown at enrolment and is not retained by Football Queensland.
Card charges associated with a club’s own fees and products remain the responsibility of the club.
The familiar fee structure stays in place for 2027, including individual player enrolment fees and applicable team and licence fees. Community team fees will increase by approximately $2 per player on average.
Queensland Premier League and FQ Academy League team fees will be released directly to clubs in each region, and will also appear in the Participation Licence approval process in Squadi. These fees reflect a 6% increase on 2026.
Clubs should refer to the confirmed fee schedules when preparing budgets and participant prices.
What Your FQ Fee Delivers
The FQ enrolment fee supports statewide services that benefit clubs and participants beyond the activities delivered by an individual club. These include competition delivery, coach and referee development, integrity and safeguarding, club governance support, participation programs, talent pathways, digital administration and infrastructure advocacy.
The 2021 Reform removed separate Zone fees and streamlined administration across the state. Since then, FQ has continued to reinvest in football across Queensland, including a $0 FQ enrolment fee for match officials in 2027, 165 free MiniRoos courses for 2,000 new coaches, technical development managers in seven regions, the Future Club+ initiative supporting more than 300 clubs, and the expansion of Girls United.
These initiatives support the continued growth and development of the game for players, coaches, referees, administrators, volunteers and the broader football community.
The service fee covers the technology platform and transaction costs of enrolment. It’s shown separately from FQ’s own enrolment component and is not retained by Football Queensland. The fee is $7 for Coles MiniRoos, $8 for juniors and $10 for seniors.
FQ’s fees support services across Queensland football, including competition delivery, coach and referee development, integrity and safeguarding, club governance support, participation programs, talent pathways, digital administration and infrastructure advocacy.
These are statewide responsibilities that support clubs and participants beyond the activities delivered by an individual club.
The existing enrolment process will remain unchanged for 2027 under the revised approach. The proposed Competition Access Fee will not be introduced. Any separate changes to systems or club processes need to be explained on their own terms, rather than assumed to follow from this fee announcement.
The revised approach retains the familiar structure, including individual player enrolment fees and applicable team and licence fees. The player enrolment schedule should not be interpreted as a complete list of every charge a club may incur. Clubs need to refer to the applicable confirmed schedules when preparing their budgets and participant prices.
Our approach is to pursue commercial partnerships, government investment and operating efficiencies alongside participant contributions. However, these funding sources cannot replace enrolment revenue or fund every service.
Before the 2021 Reform, registration combined separate state governing body fees with local zone administration fees. Those zone fees varied significantly across nearly 50 different regional tiers.
Through reform, all ten regional zones and their regional tiers were disbanded, reducing duplication, streamlining administration and delivered significant cost savings to the football community. Following the removal of Zone fees, FQ reduced state governing body fees by 30% in 2021.
FQ kept a local service approach. It appointed a General Manager to each of the SEQ, Central and Northern Conferences, appointed Region Managers, and funds technical development managers across Wide Bay, North Queensland, Sunshine Coast, South West Queensland, Gold Coast, Far North Queensland and North West Queensland.
FQ has earmarked new investment to support participation growth and strategic investment in pathways, infrastructure and governance. Recent and upcoming investment includes:
- $0 FQ enrolment fee for match officials in 2027
- 165 free Coles MiniRoos courses for 2,000 new MiniRoos coaches
- The expansion of Girls United, with leagues, social sessions and carnivals across the state
- Funding technical development managers in seven regions
- Hosting the National Futsal Championships in 2027
- Advocacy on behalf of clubs to secure critical infrastructure funding
No. FQ has announced a $0 FQ enrolment fee for match officials in 2027, down from $59 for junior referees and $98 for senior referees, which removes a major barrier to officiating. It’s part of FQ’s 10-point referee transformation plan, which focuses on recruiting new referees and improving the experience for everyone involved in the game.
The $0 fee applies to the FQ component only. It doesn’t remove every cost of becoming or remaining a referee, and Football Australia registration remains mandatory.
Speak with your club before deciding not to register. Ask for a breakdown of the total price and whether any payment arrangements or assistance are available.
How football is governed, and how clubs have a say
Understanding Football Governance and Club Affiliation
Football Queensland is committed to supporting a safe, fair and thriving football community across the state.
From grassroots clubs to elite pathways, a strong and consistent governance framework helps us deliver quality football experiences, support our clubs and volunteers, and create opportunities for players, coaches and referees.
These FAQs explain how football is governed, why clubs affiliate with Football Queensland, and the benefits of being part of Australia’s recognised football system.
Have Questions About Affiliation?
Football Queensland recognises the important contribution clubs and their volunteers make to our game.
Our team is here to help clubs understand their affiliation requirements, navigate the process and prepare for the upcoming season.
If your club has questions about how affiliation works or needs practical assistance, please contact the Football Queensland team through our established club support channels.
We look forward to working with clubs across Queensland to deliver another great season of football.
Football operates within an international and national governance framework that helps maintain consistent rules, standards and opportunities across the sport.
- FIFA is the international governing body for football.
- Football Australia (FA) is the national governing body responsible for football in Australia.
- Football Queensland (FQ) is recognised by FA as the Member Federation responsible for administering football throughout Queensland.
- Affiliated clubs are part of this recognised football system and operate in accordance with applicable national and state regulations.
Under Football Australia’s Constitution, FQ is responsible for organising, promoting and administering football in Queensland, including implementing applicable national regulations.
This connected structure helps ensure that football is supported and administered consistently, from local community clubs through to national and international competitions.
Football Australia’s Constitution establishes governance requirements for its Member Federations, such as Football Queensland.
These requirements help ensure that football’s governing bodies operate within a consistent and accountable national framework.
Member Federations must maintain constitutions that comply with FA’s governance requirements, with constitutional amendments subject to FA approval.
Football Queensland’s Constitution received approval from the Football Australia Board in 2022.
FQ also participates in ongoing national governance discussions and constitutional working groups, helping to strengthen and improve governance arrangements across Australian football.
Affiliation is a vital annual requirement for all football clubs & associations to participate in Football Queensland competitions or programs.
This unlocks benefits to Clubs & Associations including, but not limited to, club development resources, funding opportunities, competitions, programs and pathways for all participants.
Affiliation is simply a club or association confirming that you adhere to all the Football Queensland and Football Australia policies, regulations and procedures as relevant.
Knowing that our clubs and associations are predominantly operated by a volunteer workforce and the increasing amount of compliance for a sports organisation, Football Queensland has been conscious of designing a process that balances the need for fundamental good practice at all clubs with the timeliness and ease required for our volunteer workforce.
Affiliation connects your club to the recognised football system in Australia and the opportunities, protections and support that come with it.
Under Football Australia’s national governance framework, Queensland clubs affiliate through FQ, rather than directly with Football Australia.
Affiliation enables clubs to participate in sanctioned competitions and programs, access recognised development pathways, and benefit from established insurance arrangements, resources and support available through the broader football community.
It also provides a consistent framework for player registration, competition management, safeguarding, integrity and other important standards that help clubs operate safely and fairly.
FQ’s role is to administer these requirements while supporting clubs to deliver positive football experiences for their players, families and communities.
Being affiliated with Football Queensland means being part of a connected football community, with access to opportunities, protections and support that extend well beyond the local playing field.
Key benefits include:
- Competitions and pathways: Access to sanctioned competitions, state and national cup competitions, and development pathways for players, coaches and referees.
- Player registration and transfers: Access to recognised national and international registration and transfer systems, including applicable training compensation arrangements.
- Insurance and protection: Access to established football insurance arrangements, including applicable cover for clubs, participants and volunteers involved in sanctioned football activities, subject to policy terms and conditions.
- Integrity and safeguarding: Established national integrity, safeguarding, member protection, disciplinary and grievance frameworks that help protect participants and support clubs.
- Education and development: Coaching and referee education, accreditation opportunities, club development resources and nationally supported football programs.
- Funding and infrastructure: Opportunities to benefit from government funding initiatives, facilities advocacy and development support facilitated through football’s governing bodies.
- National recognition: Connection to Australia’s recognised football system, including authorised football brands, programs and resources.
These benefits help clubs focus on what matters most: providing great football experiences for their members and communities.
Access to individual competitions, programs, insurance coverage and other benefits is subject to applicable eligibility requirements, terms and conditions.
Football Australia holds various intellectual property and commercial rights associated with sanctioned football in Australia.
These include nationally recognised brands such as the Football Australia ribbon ball logo and MiniRoos, as well as certain competition rights, educational materials and development resources.
Through the national football framework, FA authorises Member Federations such as FQ, and eligible affiliated clubs, to access and use specified brands, programs and resources in accordance with applicable conditions.
This helps maintain consistent standards and protect the integrity and value of recognised football programs across Australia.
Football is continually evolving, and our policies need to evolve with it.
FQ reviews and updates affiliation requirements as needed to reflect changes in national regulations, legislative obligations, governance standards and the operational needs of the game.
Importantly, these requirements also help support safe, fair and inclusive participation, while maintaining appropriate standards for clubs, competitions and participants.
Many provisions of FQ’s 2027 Club Affiliation Policy and Agreement have been in place for several years. While some requirements have been updated or clarified, the established affiliation framework remains in place.
Our focus is on providing a consistent, responsible and sustainable framework that supports clubs and helps us deliver high-quality football experiences across Queensland.
FQ’s revised briefing commits to consultation through Congress, club forums, direct stakeholder discussions and community feedback before significant changes affecting club operations or administration are considered. The purpose is to ensure practical concerns and stakeholder feedback inform the process before implementation.
