How to Register for a Referee Course
1. Register in Squadi as a referee
To attend a referee course, you are first required to register as a referee in Squadi for this season. Click here to register via the Squadi desktop or alternatively you can register via the Squadi app. Click here to view Squadi registration guides.
2. Register to eTrainU
Once you have registered in Squadi, you will need to have a ‘Football Network’ account to access the eTrainU platform and register for a course.
If you are a returning participant with a current registration, you can log in here and proceed to step 3.
If you are new to football and don’t have a ‘Football Network’ account yet, click here to create an account and login as a Learner.
3. Complete the free online Laws Of The Game test
Before you attend a referee course, you must complete the free online Laws Of The Game test on the ETrainU platform. Click here to read the Laws Of The Game and complete the test.
4. Choose a referee course
Once you have completed your registration and online Laws of the Game test, find a course from the options below and click ‘Register’. Once logged in to the eTrainU platform, you must register to your desired course and complete the required Junior Football Match Official coursework before attending the practical workshop.
Types of Referee Courses
Level 5 - Become a Club Game Leader For MiniRoos
The Level 5 Mini Refs course (also known as Game Leader) gives boys and girls aged 10 – 12 a basic understanding of fouls and basic refereeing techniques and is used in non-competitive small-sided football.
Level 4 - Start Your Refereeing Journey with FQ
Level 4 is the community introductory course that will build on your knowledge gained from the Game Leader course and Online Laws of the Game modules. You must be a minimum of 13 years old and registered to attend. The course runs for 4 hours.
To receive your full qualification, all course attendees must complete field testing, which is two games. To get this test completed you must contact your Referee Coaching and Development Officer.
FQ charges a $150 fee to attend this course which includes registration and a first-year referee pack including uniform (teal shirt, shorts & socks), pink armband (if under 18), whistle, flag and cards.
There is also a Football Australia fee of $30. This goes towards a fund for community refereeing and to help grow and develop the game at the grassroots level throughout Queensland and Australia.
Level 3 - Develop Your Refereeing Skills
Referee
To undertake this training program you must be at least 16 years of age and hold a completed Level 4 qualification.
The course consists of classroom-based training. To receive your full qualification, all course attendees must complete two practical assessments on Senior Community Competitive Football. To get complete the tests you must contact your Referee Coaching and Development Officer. The cost to attend this course is $50.
Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)
To undertake this course you must be at least 18 years of age and have 10+ years playing experience. You do not need to be a qualified referee, but you must have completed the Online Laws of the Game modules.
The course consists of classroom-based training. To receive your full qualification, all course attendees must complete two practical assessment on Senior Community Competitive Football. To get complete these tests, you must contact your Referee Coaching and Development Officer.

Match Coach
To undertake this course you must have mentored for at least 12 months prior to registering for this course. Aimed at coaching and mentoring referees of junior, youth and lower level community senior matches. To complete this qualification you need to have completed a Match Day Coaching Report which has been approved by the instructor. The cost to attend this course is $90.
Instructor
This two-day course is designed to turn Match Coaches into Referee Educator. This will enable you to inspire and educate the next generation of referees. To become an Educator you must hold a minimum Level 3 Match Coach qualification. Day 1 is learning and day 2 is putting your learning into practice in a Level 4 Referee course. The cost to attend this course is $90.
Level 2 - Fine Tune Your Refereeing Talent
Referee (Theory)
To undertake this course you must be at least 17 years old, and hold a current Level 3 qualification. There are two exams within this course, a video analysis exam and a multiple choice theory exam which requires an 80% pass rate in both components. The cost to attend this course is $90.
Match Coach
Aimed at coaching referees at all levels of community football. To complete this qualification, you need to have completed a Match Day Coaching Report which has been approved by the instructor. The cost to attend this course is $120.
Instructors & Educators
This is a Football Australia run course and is aimed at Instructors and Educators who want to work at the top-level state or national level matches. The cost to attend this course is $250. Level 1 - Become a Top Tier Match Official
Referee (Theory)

Futsal
Futsal Referee Course
To become a Futsal referee you need to undertake both the Futsal Laws of the Game and Futsal Level 3 Referee courses. These are normally conducted over two days. The cost to attend this course is $100.
Futsal Conversion Course
This is a one day course to up-skill current referees to being Futsal referees as well. You must have been an outdoor referee for at least one registered season prior to registering for this course. The cost to attend this course is $50.
Other Courses
Walking Football
The Walking Football referee course is a pioneering initiative designed to introduce participants to the nuances of officiating this unique version of the game. The course serves as the foundational step for those who have completed the online quiz.
Participants must be a minimum of 14 years old and registered to attend this 6-hour program.
