A number of teams will look to bounce back in Round 20 of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland this weekend after some surprising FFA Cup and NPL Queensland results last week.
Gold Coast United can extend their three match winning streak as they host Brisbane Strikers in the Round 20 NPL Queensland Match of the Round, which can be viewed live and on demand on the FQ website, FQ Facebook and FQ YouTube channel.
The visitors will bring plenty of momentum into this game after their surprising 5-1 defeat of Gold Coast Knights in Round 7 of the FFA Cup last week, and will now look to beat a second Gold Coast side in as many weeks as they take on United on Saturday night.
After a slow start to the season, Strikers had started to find their league form and were undefeated for five matches before falling to Peninsula Power 4-2 last round.
Last time these two sides met in Round 5 of the NPL Queensland, Gold Coast United claimed the three points in a dominant 4-0 win featuring a Cian Cuba double.
MATCH DETAILS:
Gold Coast United v Brisbane Strikers
Saturday, 15 June, 7pm
Other matches to watch:
Brisbane City v Moreton Bay
With only two points separating the sides, this match should be a tight one. After a good run of wins, Brisbane City went on to lose their last two matches, while Moreton Bay’s season of mixed results continues, having not recorded a win since Round 16. Last time the two sides met this year, City came away with a 2-0 win and will look to repeat this feat on Saturday night.
Magpies Crusaders v SWQ Thunder
Magpies will come into this game off the high of qualifying for their first appearance in the FFA Cup Round of 32 after a penalty shootout win against Brothers Townsville on the weekend. The Mackay side have struggled to find form in the NPL Queensland competition however, and will come up against an SWQ Thunder side that hasn’t won a game in four rounds. Both teams will no doubt be hungry for a win to move clear of the relegation zone.
Players to watch:
Zach Maltby (Brisbane Strikers): Maltby’s brace helped his side to their impressive 5-1 victory to knock Gold Coast Knights out of the FFA Cup on the weekend.
Chris Lucas (Olympic FC): Lucas scored a stunning four goals in Olympic’s Round 19 game against SWQ Thunder and will look to add to his season tally against Redlands United tomorrow night.
Mitch Wright (Magpies Crusaders): Magpies keeper Wright saved a vital penalty in the shootout against Brothers Townsville to send his side into the Round of 32 on the weekend, and can help his side to a win this weekend if he brings the same form to the Round 20 clash.
