The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ is now only 15 days away from arriving in Australia and Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce how you and your club can get involved in the biggest global women’s sporting event.
With ten Queenslanders named on the CommBank Matildas’ 23-player squad, the largest contingent from all Member Federations, the Queensland football community is encouraged to get behind the team as they strive for gold, whilst taking advantage of the many ways to get involved in the tournament.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ marks an important and historic milestone for female football, and as the nation’s enthusiasm grows watching the Matildas take on the world, this is the perfect time for clubs to welcome new participants to our game,” Football Queensland CEO, Robert Cavallucci said.
“From school yard discussions on a hat trick by Sam Kerr to recreating Katrina Gorry’s midfield runs, there is undoubtedly going to be an influx of players inspired by this experience and it is up to clubs to engage those future Matildas and Socceroos through activations like MiniRoos Kick-Off Programs or Come and Try days.
“It is an exciting opportunity to get involved in the thrill of a FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in your region with ‘Green and Gold’ training sessions or Female Football Festivals; there’s potential to do some amazing things that will put your club at the centre of this excitement.”
Clubs can join the state in celebrating the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ by sanctioning their events with Football Queensland; the first 40 clubs to register their event will receive Activation Packs filled with limited edition giveaways including calendars, flag bunting, Discover Your Fancestry posters and more.
From Thursday, 20 July to Sunday, 20 August, Queenslanders will be able to immerse themselves in the excitement and atmosphere of the tournament at Brisbane/Meaanjin’s FIFA Fan Festival™ site at the South Bank Parklands, offering the perfect place to watch the matches live while enjoying an extensive football and entertainment programme.
Communities in regional Queensland will also have an opportunity to come together and support the CommBank Matildas with live viewing sites set up across the state broadcasting the Australian squad’s games, with more information to be released shortly.
The entire football community is encouraged to share their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ activities on social media, including sending our Matildas ‘Good Luck’ messages and words of encouragement by using the hashtags #TilitsDone, #OurGame and #YehTheGirls.
