Football Queensland has confirmed its support for Moreton Bay United and Albany Creek Excelsior following today’s announcement that the clubs will officially merge to become Moreton City Excelsior.
The merger comes with Football Queensland’s strong endorsement and follows several months of consultation and discussion between both clubs and the state governing body.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, I’d like to congratulate Moreton Bay United and Albany Creek Excelsior, and their Presidents Ben Parkin and Tony Dooley, for taking this step to form a stronger club that will deliver an improved football experience and a more sustainable operational model, ensuring the ongoing success and growth of the game,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“This decision reflects the clear evidence that clubs who reach a critical mass of participants unlock significant benefits with higher and more stable revenue streams, improved green space utilisation and reduced resource duplication. With the ability to fund more paid positions in key roles, there is a lower reliance on volunteers, leading to the delivery of stronger pathways and long-term club sustainability.
“Football Queensland has actively assisted several clubs to merge over the last 12 months and is strongly supporting mergers currently underway. We encourage all clubs looking to reflect on their position within the Queensland football landscape to assess the opportunities to deliver a high quality football experience, reduced volunteer load and a more sustainable club model that can come from bringing together clubs that complement each other.”
