Football Queensland has completed the installation of a security fence at Endeavour Park which is set to deliver significant improvements to the experience of the Far North football community ahead of the 2024 season.
In line with other Football Queensland facilities in the Northern Conference, FQ will implement a gate fee at Endeavour Park from 2024, with all funds used to contribute to the delivery of the Endeavour Park Precinct master plan and key upgrades to improve the football experience for participants.
“Football Queensland is committed to providing a safe environment for our participants and members of the football community to enjoy our game, and the installation of fencing at Endeavour Park will provide additional security to ensure we’re delivering a positive experience for all involved in football each week following a number of incidents this season,” FQ General Manager – Northern Region Declan Carnes said.
“The installation of fencing will also secure the facility against antisocial behaviour that has been ongoing in recent years as identified by Cairns Regional Council, and has caused significant damages and expenses for our game.
“Football Queensland has also determined a number of upgrades to improve the facility which will include the installation of additional shade and grandstands, a new canteen in the middle of the park and the upgrade of lighting to LED in addition to a full-time gardener who will be based on site to improve field maintenance.
“Football Queensland has completed a master plan for Endeavour Park containing further funding and upgrade plans including all-inclusive access and wider pitches which will allow the facility to be FIFA approved for future training base opportunities and a possible training venue for Olympic Games.
“FQ invested over $230,000 into Endeavour Park in 2023, with this investment to grow significantly into 2024 as we begin to deliver the facility’s master plan.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, I’d like to thank the Queensland Government and Cairns Regional Council for their support in the installation of fencing at Endeavour Park that will deliver safe and secure facilities not only for Football Queensland members but also for the members of Rovers Cricket with whom we have now established an MOU.
“As part of this, we will work with Rovers Cricket to facilitate the continued growth and development of the Endeavour Park facility including through the sharing of resources and equipment.”
Following the implementation of a gate fee in 2024, entry to Endeavour Park will remain free for all coaches, managers and committee members due to their role as volunteers within the game, while children aged 16 years and under will also gain free entry.
