Football Federation Australia (FFA) has confirmed the cancellation of the 2021 Futsal National Championships due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision follows consultation with stakeholders regarding the uncertainty of travel restrictions and border closures, in addition to scheduling difficulties.
“The cancellation of the 2021 Futsal National Championships is disappointing, however also understandable given the impact COVID-19 has had on the Australian football calendar,” Football Queensland (FQ) CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“We now turn our focus to the 2022 Futsal National Championships, which Football Queensland will certainly be putting in a bid to be the host of right here in Queensland.
“Futsal is an integral part of our game in Queensland and is played by thousands of participants, so Football Queensland will absolutely be putting up our hand to welcome the best futsal talent from around the country to our state for the 2022 event.
“We look forward to working with the FFA and other Member Federations to plan for future championships, and are excited about the opportunity to host this long-standing national tournament here in Queensland in the years to come.”
