Showcasing the next generation of Queensland football talent, Brisbane Roar FC will face the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Foxtel Y-League Grand Final at ANZ Stadium on Friday 1 February.
Securing a berth in Brisbane’s first Y-League Grand Final did not come with ease to the young Roar side despite finishing atop of Conference A, as neither the Roar nor Wanderers were assured progression to the final entering the season’s 10th and final round.
The Roar were tasked with holding off a late charge from Melbourne City for a spot in the final by beating Melbourne Victory 2-0 in the final round.
Securing the win against Victory meant the Roar finished the season locked on 16 points apiece with Melbourne City, one goal being the key difference in the Roar finishing on top.
“It is great that our players are now rewarded with a Foxtel Y-League Grand Final appearance for their hard work,” Roar Academy Director Drew Sherman said.
“We look forward to representing our club and the whole of Queensland on Friday afternoon against the Wanderers.”
Having not come up against the Wanderers during the regular season, Roar defender Aaron Reardon says the team is ready for the challenge.
“Of course there is a game plan, we know our own game but are ready to give our all and adapt on the fly,” Reardon said.
The Foxtel Y-League 2019 Grand Final will be broadcast live and exclusive on Fox Sports 505 from 3.00pm (Queensland time) on Friday and will be the first match of a double header with the Western Sydney Wanderers FC hosting the Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League (kick-off 6:50pm QLD/7:50pm AEDT).
As a result of qualifying for the Y-League Grand Final, Brisbane Roar Youth’s opening round National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland fixture against Western Pride has been moved to Tuesday, 5 February at 7.30pm.
