A bold new era for futsal in Queensland will begin on 30 July 2021 with the launch of the inaugural season of the F-League.
As part of Football Queensland’s vision to connect and integrate competitions and pathways, the F-League will deliver the highest level of competitive futsal in Queensland.
Senior Men’s and Women’s teams from Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast will play home and away matches throughout the regular season, culminating in a Finals Series played over two weekends in October.
The competition will see Crusaders FC, Fire FC, Gold Coast Force, Galaxy FC, Ipswich Futsal and River City Futsal go head-to-head for the first-ever F-League honours.
The brand-new F-League will feature double-headers, with the Women’s games to be played back-to-back with Men’s games throughout the season.
FQ will broadcast every F-League game live on NPL.TV, with highlights packages and other video content to keep futsal fans engaged during the season.
The Grand Final will be held on Saturday 16 October to align with the start of the 2021 SEQ Futsal Premier League season.
FQ Futsal Participation Officer Trevor Edwards said the F-League was a crucial step forward for the game.
“It is great to see teams from the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Brisbane involved in the inaugural season of the F-League,” said Edwards.
“I can’t wait to see these clubs in action, and I know the Queensland futsal community is buzzing about the launch of this new competition.”
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said the launch of the F-League would deliver a stronger competition framework for futsal.
“The launch of this ground-breaking new competition is another milestone in our journey to unite futsal in Queensland,” said Cavallucci.
“In the 2020-2022 Futsal Strategy, we identified the need to develop a new futsal competition that would serve as the highest level of the game in this state.
“The F-League will be the NPL of futsal, with home and away fixtures and higher standards of play, coaching and match-day experience.
”In time, FQ will build a connected competition that includes SEQ, Northern and Central conferences to unlock the potential of futsal across the state.
“The 2021 F-League season will be the first step to achieve that outcome.”
