All three Football Queensland (FQ) competitions were in full swing over the weekend as the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Women’s and Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) seasons kicked off.

Gold Coast Knights were triumphant in the 2019 Grand Final rematch against Olympic FC, while Brisbane City were too good for Brisbane Strikers as they recorded their first win for the 2020 season.
Newly-promoted Capalaba FC also claimed their first NPL Men’s victory as they kept Redlands United scoreless in the Redlands Derby, while Moreton Bay United and Magpies Crusaders United had to share the points from their Round 3 encounter.
Elsewhere in the league, Gold Coast United defeated Eastern Suburbs, Lions FC put three past Brisbane Roar Youth, and Peninsula Power handed Sunshine Coast Wanderers a loss with a come-from-behind win.
The 2020 NPL Women’s season got underway over the weekend, as Logan Lightning recorded a dominant win over Moreton Bay United and Eastern Suburbs held Gold Coast United to a draw in a thrilling encounter featuring some cracking goals and stunning saves.
Capalaba FC secured their first win of the season against the QAS side with a late winner, while Mitchelton FC put four goals past Western Pride and Gap FC opened their 2020 campaign with a strong win over SWQ Thunder.
Souths United forfeited their Round 1 match against Lions FC.
The 2020 FQPL season kicked off on the weekend, with five matches played across three days.
Southside Eagles opened their season with a victory against Wolves FC, while Logan Lightning recorded a win against Holland Park Hawks.
Ipswich Knights were too strong for Souths United in their opening encounter, while 2019 Champions Rochedale Rovers put three goals past SWQ Thunder and Western Pride recorded their first win in the FQPL against former NPL opponents Sunshine Coast FC in two late comeback victories.
