Sporting Schools is Australia’s largest school-based sports participation program, providing opportunities for children to get active and connect with more than 30 community sporting organisations.
Football Queensland work collaboratively with Football Australia the accredited Sporting Schools provider for football in Australia to ensure programs are tailored to suit the needs of each school and are inclusive to students of all abilities.
Schools are able to select from the below programs:
Coach Delivered Football or Futsal: Most popular program where a coach is allocated to the school to deliver fun, engaging and educational sessions. All coaches are qualified through Football Australia and are trained in Physical Literacy. For students in Prep – year 6, the MiniRoos program will be implemented and will introduce the fundamental skills of football across a range of fun and engaging game-based activities. For students in year 7 & 8, the coaches will deliver sessions that targets all skill levels and encourages a positive view towards an active and healthy lifestyle.
Football in Schools Inclusive Program: Adapted version of the MiniRoos program, catering for students with intellectual disabilities and autism. Coaches are purposefully trained by both Football Australia and Special Olympics Australia and are provided with additional resources to deliver inclusive programs and to adapt activities to suit the needs of participating students.
Online At Home Program: Virtual sessions for students in lockdown or regional and remote communities wishing to practice their skills with friends, siblings, parents & objects at home.
Teacher Delivered Program: School receives session plan manuals, interactive workbooks, and teacher professional development via webinars. A teacher from the school delivers each session with support from Football Australia.
Sporting Schools football programs can run before, during and after school and are available for all primary and high schools up to year 8.
