The Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 hit Queensland this week, and the resulting matches certainly lived up to the hype surrounding the Cup.
Moreton Bay United 4 (Alex JANOVSKI 73′, Lachlan STROGUSZ 75′, Paul MIKULA 107′, Declan SMITH 109′)
Broadmeadow Magic 2 (Dino FAJKOVIC 18′, Kale BRADBURY 90+1′)
Moreton Bay secured their first ever appearance in the Round of 32 in heart stopping fashion, with extra time goals from substitutes Paul Mikula and Declan Smith lifting the Jets to a stunning win.
The match was full of action from the first whistle until the last, as the Wolter Park faithful witnessed a saved penalty, a red card and a stoppage time equaliser, all before the Jets’ extra time heroics.
Moreton Bay coach Adam Piddick deserves a huge slice of credit for his work on the night, after all three of his substitutes found their way onto the scoresheet.
Gold Coast City 3 (Jarrod KYLE 9′ 64′ 79′)
Western Knights 1 (James BURNS 90+3′)
While Moreton Bay shared the scoring load, Jarrod Kyle took centre stage in front of goal for Gold Coast City as the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland leaders swept past Western Knights.
Kyle was full of menace all night, producing three sublime finishes while constantly threatening the Knights’ backline.
GCC have now qualified for the Round of 16 on three occasions, and their hot form will give coach Grae Piddick hope of equalling his team’s 2014 Quarter Final finish.
Peninsula Power 0
Melbourne City 2 (Stefan MAUK 45+1′, Bruno FORNAROLI 90+1′)
Peninsula Power were rank outsiders heading into this clash, but Aaron Philp’s men stood toe-to-toe with Melbourne City for long periods of the game.
Charles Mendy led the line tirelessly for the hosts, chasing down every lost cause and even hitting the side netting midway through the first half.
While Power were left disappointed after conceding goals late in both halves, the 4,000-strong Dolphin Stadium crowd definitely received their money’s worth.
