The outstanding individuals of Football Queensland’s (FQ) competitions for 2018 have been recognised at an awards ceremony at the Brisbane Roar Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League double header at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Award winners spanning the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland, National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) and the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) were honoured at the presentation, hosted by FQ President Glenn Smith and Chief Executive Officer Richard Griffiths.
Former Moreton Bay United FC and Gold Coast United FC player Meaghan McElligott was awarded both the 2018 NPLW Most Valuable Player Award and the Golden Boot Award.
McElligott recently signed for Canberra United in the Westfield W-League after recording an astonishing 50 goals in 26 games of the NPLW Queensland 2018 regular season.
Eastern Suburbs FC’s Youeil Shol also received two awards, claiming the FQPL Golden Boot in addition to the Most Valuable Player Award alongside Capalaba FC’s Ryo Ono, while North Queensland United captain Corey Waples was named the 2018 NPL Queensland Most Valuable Player.

Criteria for FQ Awards, as outlined in 2018 Competition Regulations:
Golden Boot Award: awarded to the highest goal scorer at the conclusion of the regular season
Safe Hands Award: awarded to the goalkeeper with the highest number of ‘clean sheets’ at the conclusion of the regular season
Most Valuable Player Award: awarded to the player who polls the highest number of Most Valuable Player votes at the conclusion of the regular season
Young Player of the Year: awarded to the player aged 20 and younger who scored highest on the Most Valuable Player tally at the conclusion of the regular season
Coach of the Year: awarded to the Head Coach who receives the most votes in the 3-2-1 votes submitted by the Head Coach of each club at the conclusion of the regular season
Referee of the Year: judged by FQ’s State Referee Manager in consultation with the State Referee Committee
*Players were ineligible to win any individual awards if they were suspended as a result of receiving a direct red card in a match or as the result of a disciplinary hearing, or if they played in less than ten first team matches at the conclusion of the regular season.
*Head Coaches were ineligible to win the Coach of the Year award if the Head Coach was suspended as a result of being expelled from the technical area during a match, or if they were the Head Coach for less than ten regular season matches.
