Feature Match: Capalaba FC v Gap FC
Capalaba FC and Gap FC will go head-to-head this weekend in the NPL Women’s Feature Match.
Fourth will take on fifth in what is set to be a closely-contested Round 7 encounter.
Hosts Capalaba FC are in fine form having won their last four matches, and will bring plenty of confidence into this weekend’s clash after defeating top three side Logan Lightning 2-1 last round.
That win came just two days after handing reigning Premiers Lions FC a 2-1 defeat in their mid-week Round 14 battle.
Capalaba have scored 14 goals and conceded just six in their last four matches and will look to extend their winning run to five come this weekend.
Opponents Gap FC meanwhile will come into the Round 7 clash off the back of a 4-2 loss to current ladder leaders Gold Coast United.
Gap FC had recorded three straight wins against Mitchelton FC, QAS and Souths United before last weekend’s defeat following a bye in Round 5. Despite sitting just outside the top four, the visitors currently boast one of the best attacking records in the league, with as many goals scored as second-placed Lions FC (38).
This has been thanks largely to current Golden Boot leader Laini Freier who has scored an impressive 15 goals in just 10 matches. Gold Coast United managed to keep the young forward goalless for just the second time this season last weekend, so keeping her contained could be key to Capalaba’s pursuit of the three points in Round 7.

Other Key Matches:
Logan Lightning v Eastern Suburbs
Top three side Logan Lightning will welcome Eastern Suburbs for a Round 7 clash following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Capalaba FC last round, having recorded back-to-back wins in the two weeks prior.
Logan will no doubt be eager to get back in the winner’s circle this weekend as they trail second-placed Lions FC by just one point and come up against an Eastern Suburbs side with four wins under their belt.
Boasting one of the best attacks in the league, Logan Lightning’s joint leading goalscorers Tiarne Petterwood and Meaghan McElligott have helped their side to a number of wins in 2020 with seven goals each to their name, alongside Shea Connors and Natalia Pinkney who have each bagged six of their own in just seven and eight matches respectively.
The dynamic Logan attack will face an Eastern Suburbs side boosted by a Round 6 victory over QAS last weekend, their first win since Round 20 at the beginning of August. The 3-1 win against QAS came courtesy of goals to Kate Muscat, Rosie Sutton and Jessica Gibson.
Having recorded a mixed bag of results in recent weeks, Easts can take advantage of this opportunity to get their season on a roll with a second straight win if they are able to overcome a threatening Logan Lightning side this weekend.

QAS v Gold Coast United
QAS will face a tough task this weekend as they come up against ladder leaders Gold Coast United in a Round 7 clash.
Plenty of eyes will be on the Gold Coast side who remain undefeated in nine matches and sit atop the table even with a game in hand. Since a Round 1 draw against Eastern Suburbs, Gold Coast United have gone on a spectacular eight-match winning streak and look undoubtedly the best side in the competition going into the weekend.
QAS meanwhile have recorded just one win in their last five matches and will be determined to get back in the winner’s circle sooner rather than later. If anyone can be the difference for the hosts this weekend it’s forwards Rachel Dudley and Kijah Stephenson, who have looked two of the side’s best in 2020.
