Indigenous Round will be held across all football competitions in the state from Friday, 9 July to Sunday, 11 July in celebration of NAIDOC Week.
“Football Queensland is proud to acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and welcomes the opportunity to participate in NAIDOC Week celebrations, which recognise the contributions of our First Nations peoples,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football is a powerful tool that unites people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures, and NAIDOC Week provides an important opportunity for our clubs and participants across Queensland to support their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
“Football Queensland welcomes and encourages clubs to wear NAIDOC jerseys for fixtures during this round as many do each year in celebration of the week, or to find other ways to celebrate with club members and families.
“Clubs across the state from community level to the NPL Queensland are encouraged to celebrate and engage in Indigenous Round by incorporating an Acknowledgement of Country or traditional smoke ceremony pre-match.
“To support clubs in their NAIDOC Week celebrations, we have created a suite of social media templates for clubs to use in promoting their fixtures, results and club events during the week, which are available to download from FQ’s Club Marketing Portal.
“We look forward to seeing our clubs get involved in NAIDOC Week celebrations, and to acknowledging the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland throughout NAIDOC Week.”
NAIDOC Week will be held from Sunday, 4 July to Sunday, 11 July 2021.
