Football Queensland is delighted to announce the expansion of the FQ Academy with the appointment of Dale Hill to head up the FQ Goalkeeper Academy in the state’s inaugural full-time goalkeeper development role.
The former Brisbane City FC Director of Goalkeeping boasts extensive experience in player development and coach education and has previously worked with the FQ Academy boys state teams, the Future Matildas program and the Brisbane Roar’s Liberty A-League women side in addition to attending the CommBank Junior Matildas camp as goalkeeper coach for the recent three-match international series against Korea Republic.
“We’re excited to welcome Dale Hill to Football Queensland as we strengthen development opportunities for goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches throughout the state,” FQ General Manager – Football & State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“Football Queensland is particularly proud to appoint our inaugural full-time team member focusing specifically on goalkeeper development in Queensland, and I’m confident that Dale will have a strong impact on many of our state’s players by developing a strategy to provide best practice services for them and their coaches.
“In his new role, Dale will work with FQ Academy pathway players across our regional, metro and QAS programs while also educating and upskilling new and practicing goalkeeper coaches alongside other experienced coach educators like Frank Monteverde and John Gorza.”
Hill said he was delighted to start in the new role with Football Queensland during such an exciting time for Australian football.
“Historically goalkeeping has sometimes been a neglected area of football development, so it’s pleasing to see Football Queensland take a progressive approach to goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach education with the creation of this role,” Hill said.
“I look forward to getting out into the wider community to support existing coaches, clubs and goalkeeper programs in both metro and regional parts of the state.”
Football Australia Head of Goalkeeping & Goalkeeper Coach – Matildas Tony Franken said the appointment of a specialised goalkeeper development role within a Member Federation was a significant step for the game.
“On behalf of Football Australia, I’d like to congratulate Football Queensland on the appointment of Dale Hill in FQ’s inaugural full-time goalkeeper development role,” Franken said.
“This is an appointment that I have been working towards and wishing to be implemented across Australia and I’m looking forward to working with Dale to produce excellent goalkeepers and coach development opportunities in the future.”
