Football Queensland has today confirmed the teams that will be participating in the upcoming FQ Community Cup, to be held from Monday, 20 September to Friday, 24 September at Maroochydore FC in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council.
The five-day event will bring together over 700 junior boys and girls from across regional and South East Queensland, and for the first time will feature guest teams from the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association (SCCSA).
“Young players, coaches and referees will travel from across regional and South East Queensland to play in the FQ Community Cup, which presents a great opportunity for participants to gain valuable playing experience against their peers from other parts of the state while forming connections and friendships off-field,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football Queensland would like to acknowledge the support of Sunshine Coast Council as we work with local businesses and attractions to welcome FQ Community Cup attendees exploring the region in September.
“We are delighted to welcome teams from the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association as guests for this year’s FQ Community Cup as we continue working to unite football here in Queensland.
“Football Queensland is committed to building a strong, collaborative relationship with SCCSA and other Church Associations in the state, and this is an important step forward as we involve a number of local teams in next month’s FQ Community Cup on the Sunshine Coast.”
Economy Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said he was excited to welcome more than 750 school aged footy legends in the making to Maroochydore.
“Council’s vision was to be known as one of Australia’s premier sports training destinations and a great host of major sporting events and teams, and the FQ Community Cup absolutely fits this profile,” O’Pray said.
“The five-day program also presents a real opportunity for event visitors to sight-see and explore all of our natural assets and attractions.”
The 2021 FQ Community Cup draw will be released shortly.
