Four young Queenslanders are a step closer to international football after being selected by Under 17 Women’s National Team coach Ante Juric for a six-day training camp in Canberra.
Townsville’s India Kubin (pictured above), Bundaberg’s Kijah Stephenson, Gold Coast product Hollie Palmer and Brisbane-based Shekinah Friske will train alongside 20 others from around Australia at the AIS starting Thursday.
Kubin, Stephenson (left) and Friske all represented Queensland at last week’s Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls.
Palmer has previously appeared at the annual National Training Centre Challenge and is part of the Brisbane Roar/QAS NTC squad which competes in the PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues.
Football Queensland Women’s & Inclusive Football Development Officer Sarah Willington said each of the four deserved their selection.
“It’s fantastic to see four players from Queensland gain this recognition,” Willington said.
“These players come from far and wide and have shone with their dedication and commitment to their personal development.
“Hopefully each of the girls can go on to represent the Matildas and continue the tradition of Queenslanders in the national team.”
Football Federation Australia will soon announce the squad for the second camp, which will run from 24-28 July.
The four group winners at the qualification tournament will join four other qualifiers at the 2017 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship in China.
