Dear Sunshine Coast Members,
The 2022 season has been one of immense challenges but also one of huge transformation and growth for the region, with our football community coming together to make significant positive change to the game.
From overcoming severe flooding across the Sunshine Coast region to big successes on and off the pitch, 2022 has been a challenging yet prosperous year.
As we look back on the year there are many milestones, achievements and accolades to celebrate what has been a momentous 12 months showing just how much we have accomplished as a football community this season.
State Award Winners
The Sunshine Coast region had strong representation at the Football in Queensland Awards Night taking out a host of awards. Congratulations again to Andrew Kinden (Service to Football – Platinum Award winner), Sandra Jones (Protect Our Game Service Award – Individual winner) and Noosa Lions Division 1 Women (Community Senior Team of the Year winner) on their outstanding achievements.
Major Events Held On The Sunshine Coast
A host of major Football Queensland events were hosted on the Sunshine Coast this year bringing thousands of visitors from across the state to the region. Three of the biggest events on the Queensland football calendar played out at Maroochydore FC including WinterFest22, FQ Community Cup and the inaugural FQ Academy U12 Cup.
Grand Finals a Huge Success
One of the standout local events of the year, the Sunshine Coast Grand Finals took place at the Sunshine Coast Stadium precinct. Over the course of the day more than 5,000 people went through the gates to watch the region’s best junior and McDonald’s Football Queensland Premier League 3 Sunshine Coast talent go head-to-head.
Sunshine Coast Sides Impress On the Big Stage
Sunshine Coast sides tasted success in the state’s FQPL 3 Play-Offs and women’s state knockout competition the Kappa Women’s Super Cup. Maroochydore FC earned promotion to FQPL 2 in a dominating win against Willowburn FC while Sunshine Coast Wanderers progressed to the Kappa Women’s Super Cup Semi-Final.
Sunshine Coast Referee Success
Sunshine Coast referees were called up to officiate matches in some of the top Queensland competitions this season. Congratulations and well done to the following referees:
- NPL Men’s – Zac Keenan
- NPL Women’s – Ellie Jones
- NPL U23’s – Luca Ferroussat
- FQPL 1 Men’s – Jay Hudson
First Ever B Diploma Course Delivered on the Sunshine Coast
New ground was broken with the first ever B Diploma course delivered in the Sunshine Coast region this season with 24 coaches taking another step on their advanced coach education journey.

I’d especially like to thank all of the club volunteers for the countless hours you pour into the game and the changes you have implemented to ensure football continues to evolve and improve.
