Following the release of the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan for football in Queensland, Football Queensland (FQ) has identified participation as a key pillar in the future growth of the game.
Referee participation is highlighted in the Strategic Plan, with a key target to double the number of registered referees by 2022.
Reflecting this target, a series of referee initiatives will be rolled out in the coming months, focusing on improving recruitment, retention and support of referees in the state.
The first initiative following the release of the Strategic Plan will be the appointment of a State Referee Manager.
FQ has identified that the growth of the game is underpinned by the quality and number of referees and coaches across the state, and this role will be pivotal in the continued development of refereeing in Queensland.
With a focus on recruitment, retention and talent identification of referees, the State Referee Manager will provide leadership as a number of initiatives are rolled out across the state.
These initiatives will include the appointment of a number of part-time positions and a state-wide recruitment and retention campaign, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
The State Referee Manager will have an exciting opportunity to be a part of driving positive change and growth in the refereeing space in Queensland and while referee experience is desirable for the role, it is not essential.
Applications for the State Referee Manager position close next Friday, 15 November.
